Spotted Eagle Ray

The Spotted Eagle Ray is a majestic, yet shy creature which is commonly found in the waters of Bermuda, Florida, the Bahamas, Caribbean, and Gulf of Mexico.

These rays are very wary of scuba divers and can be seen cruising near walls and deeper reefs or along the sandy ocean floor, digging for mollusks and other meal tidbits.

Fun Fact

We saw this particular Spotted Eagle Ray swimming close to the sandy bottom near the shipwreck, Hilma Hooker, at about 95 feet on a beautiful sunny morning. Of course, as we approached to take his picture, the ray began to move away, not at all interested in being on camera or having much more to do with us.
